rapid pace. the israeli military continues to beef up troops and tanks along the gaza border. >> and a happy day for dozens of children who are finally home tonight. we have one family's special story from d.c.'s adoption day. thanks for joining us. i'm laura evans. >> i'm maureen umeh. we begin with a news alert out of the district. one teenager is dead, a second is injured after an attack inside the woodley park metro station. tonight, nine teenagers are under arrest in connection to that attack. as you can imagine, it was a scary situation for metro riders who were there. fox 5s lauren demarco is live at the station with the latest. lauren? >> reporter: laura, an 18-year- old from olney, maryland, was killed inside here overnight. it stemmed from an earlier incident, a robbery in nearby adam's morgan. both metro transit police and d.c. police quickly responded to the metro station, and they were able to take the suspect into custody. >> i have had no idea.

i would never have expected that here. always feels safe knee. >> reporter: area residents disturbed to hear an 18-year- old was stabbed and killed. another man beaten all inside of the woodley park metro stop. nine teenagers are under arrest. it all started with the robbery in adams morgan near 18th street and colombia road. police say several suspects took, quote, personal property from the 18-year-old griffin. a short time later, around 1:15 in the morning, griffin and at least one other man he knew ran into some of the same suspects who robbed him. >> an altercation ensued, which led to the stabbing and the assault of the other victim. >> reporter: a frightening ordeal for passengers who were inside the station at the time. one man spoke with fox 5 over the phone k. >> he created the -- here right because you think the situation is resolved when they come down and arrest another and another and another. >> reporter: he posted photos of the crime scene on twitter.

the station was quickly placed on lockdown, passengers told to stay put on the platform while suspects were taken into custody around them. >> you see an officer walk by and a couple dozen feet from where you were, they arrest someone. >> reporter: police say surveillance cameras may have captured the crime. >> we're in the process of analyzing video with metro transit police to determine what, if anything else, was captured. >> we would remind the customers that metro is a safe place to travel. this is an isolated incident and that station doesn't see a lot of crime. >> reporter: riders are being extra cautious, especially into the holiday season. >> and you in an urban environment. >> don't walk alone. not alone. >> reporter: several weapons were recovered here from the metro station, the crime scene here. of the nine suspects, seven juveniles are facing aggravated assault charges, another is facing robbery along with the aggravated assault charge and a

year, the full forecast is coming up just ahead. back to you. >> thank you. the other top story we're following tonight, escalating tensions between hamas and israel. the israeli military is moving thousands of troops, tanks, and armored vehicles to the gaza border in a sign that a ground invasion could happen at any hour. more than 40 palestinians and three israelis were killed. fox's leland vitter has more. >> reporter: the violence in the middle east continues to escalate. militants have unleashed hundreds of rockets against israel, including new longer- range weapons aimed at tel aviv. in response, the milliary is now deploying an iron dome rocket defense system. >> and that will hit inside tel aviv. the iron dome brings down the property to a small probability. you know, you can't play games.
